AIRPORT DESCRIPTION

LOCATION
  • The airport is located 1km N - NW of Sitia town centre, on the crest of Bonda hill.  It has been in operation since the first airport opened in 1984, covering an area of 42,000 m2.
  • In 2002 the new runway was opened and the total airport area came to 1,922,000 m2  ,including a temporary Terminal building of 500 m2 and the Control Tower.
  • In July 2015 the airport services moved to the new Terminal building, covering  an area of 7500 m2  where they have been in opreation ever since.

FACILITIES

 
  • One Passenger terminal.
  • Two aircraft parking Aprons:
  •     Apron A, with an area of 7500 m2 ,  for the use of General Aviation aicraft, accessed via taxiway C, where there is also an Air BP refueling station.
  •     Apron B,  with an area of 40,000 m2 , used by all aircraft, accesed via taxiways A and B. (Not yet marked).                                                                   Three (3) B738 or A320 type aircraft or two (2)A321 aircraft can be simultaneousy serviced.
  • Aerodrome Fire Protection Category 6 (IV).
